The start of the spring semester is coming closer and you certainly have some questions with regard to your studies at the Faculty of Economics and Management (WF). The first section of this message is specifically aimed at new students. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and I look forward to seeing you soon in person.
This issue also contains important information for students in the higher semesters. Please read them carefully.
Our good wishes to you all for an excellent start to the new semester!
Prof. Dr. Christoph A. Schaltegger

Induction into study organisation at WF
Students who embark on a study programme obviously have lots of questions. With that in mind, we organise an induction event for new bachelor and master students of Economics and Management on 18 February 2020. You will be given information about the university building and the planning and organisation of your study programme with plenty of opportunity to ask questions. This will be followed by a welcome aperitif together with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. More information about the event
Communication via e-mail
When you enrol for your study programme you are given a studmail account. Electronic mail from the university goes to your studmail address only. The log-in information you will need to access the UniPortal and OLAT also goes to your studmail address.
Please check your e-mail regularly to make sure you have all information in good time.
Registering for courses via OLAT
Before attending your chosen courses, you must register via the e-learning platform OLAT. Only students who have registered for the courses will receive information from lecturers by e-mail and access to course materials.
It is within the responsibility of the students to check, whether courses are eligible for crediting to study programmes. Use the ‟Study Programme” search function in the Course Catalogue to see which courses are eligible for credit. If a course is not eligible, students may not complete any course work or earn any ECTS points in the study programme. In case of questions, please contact our academic student advisors.
For tutorial groups, a separate OLAT registration is required. Places are limited and will be assigned on a “first come, first served” basis
OLAT registration is open from 3 to 28 February 2020. Guide to Registering for Courses via OLAT
KSF & TF courses: Registration via UniPortal at start of the semester
If you, as a student of Economics & Management plan to attend courses offered by other faculties as an optional compulsory or optional subject, please make sure you know their registration requirements! For courses offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (KSF), please note that the OLAT registration and the UniPortal registration (!) both begin two weeks before the start of the semester and end on Friday of the second week of the semester. Further information (in German)
The two optional compulsory courses of Prof. Dr. Peter G. Kirchschläger, Business Ethics and Economic Ethics, are now offered by the Faculty of Theology (TF). Thus, the registration conditions of the Faculty of Theology apply. At the TF, there is a compulsory registration via UniPortal at the beginning of the semester, and for lectures with oral or written examinations (in German), there is a second UniPortal registration towards the end of the semester.
Python block event before the start of the semester
The optional compulsory course "Python - a non-technical introduction" will now take place before the beginning of the fall semester from 7 to 10 September 2020. Further information on the course will be announced in the course catalogue from June.
Compulsory registration for examinations courses
Only students who register via the UniPortal between 2 and 16 April 2020 may attend examinations and earn credits of the Faculty of Management & Economics. This regulation applies to all courses of the WF (unless otherwise stated in the course).
Students must also register via the UniPortal for courses which do not finish with an examination.
There may be courses for which early UniPortal registration is necessary. Please consider the lecturers' notes / notes on OLAT.
Information about e.g. examination dates is published on the website under Examinations. Further information about registration will be provided by e-mail prior to the registration period.

The spring semester 2020 deadline for submitting your bachelor’s or master’s thesis is 14 May 2020. You can find out more about other deadlines on the website under Exams. The Guidelines for completing bachelor’s and master's theses details what needs to be submitted by the deadline.
Publication and inspection of examination grades
You may view the grades obtained in fall semester 2019 from Thursday 6 February 2020 via the UniPortal. You will find instructions online in the Instructions for viewing academic achievements and grades.
As of 6 February, you will find a new section "Examination Statistics" on the UniPortal (under examinations) containing information such as grade point average and pass rate for the WF examinations.
The opportunity to inspect examination grades is primarily intended for students who obtained unsatisfactory results. It will take place on various dates from 13 to 14 February 2020. Registration is mandatory and binding. Details of individual inspection dates and registration requirements are listed in the course catalogue. Additional rules on inspection of examination grades are set out in the Guide to Examinations.
Repeat examination for "Information Management"
According to the model curriculum, the bachelor course "Information Management" is the only compulsory course in the 6th semester. In order to avoid a considerable prolongation of studies in case of failure, a repeat examination will be offered for this course in June. Details will follow with the examination information during spring semester 2020.
