Lynn Gummow was born in Bülach and grew up in Zurich, Switzerland and Scotland. She attended school in Gordonstoun, Scotland, and then Abbey College, London, where she graduated in 2001 with A levels in chemistry, physics, and biology. She studied medicine at the University of Zurich for four semesters, before training as a Pilates instructor in South Africa, and from 2005 onwards was successfully self-employed in the field. She obtained a bachelor's degree in 2012 and subsequently her Master’s of Law in 2013 from the University of Lucerne. During her time as a law student Lynn Gummow was a Student Assistant at the Chair of Prof. Dr. med. Klaus Mathis. After graduation, she gained practical experience in various law firms. In April 2015, she returned to the chair of Prof. Dr. Klaus Mathis to work on an interdisciplinary dissertation project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) in the field of economic analysis of law.
