Stefan Maeder grew up in the canton of Fribourg and completed studies in law at its university in 2006. After an internship with a law firm in the canton of Bern, in 2009 he was called to the Bern bar and then became a practising lawyer. In 2010 he returned to the University of Fribourg as assistant to the chair of Criminal Law and the Philosophy of Law, where he undertook teaching and research activities from 2011 onwards as a lecturer in Criminal Law. In 2017 he was awarded a doctorate with a thesis on pecuniary losses as a result of endangered assets in criminal law. He has been assistant professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure Law (with tenure track) at the University of Lucerne since the spring semester of 2018.
