Vagias Karavas (born 1975) studied law in Athens. He subsequently undertook an LL.M. at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt/Main, and received his PhD from the same institution in 2006. Between 2005 and 2007 he was employed as a Senior Research Assistant in Commercial and Business Law at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. In August 2008, he was appointed to a tenure-tracked Assistant Professorship in Legal Sociology at the University Luzern. Following the completion of his Habilitation, he was promoted to the position of Full Professor for Legal Sociology, Legal Theory and Private Law in February 2017. Vagias is Head of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Legal Studies - lucernaiuris, a founding member of the Centre for Law and Health, and President of the Institute for Cultural Studies at the University of Luzern.
