Master in Health Sciences

The Department of Health Sciences and Medicine offers an innovative master program in health sciences. The program provides in-depth knowledge of health, functioning and disability from an interdisciplinary perspective. For details about the program, see

Study programs / MSc Health Sciences

Within the master program, students may select a major in health economics and health policy. The objectives of the major are i) to assess the functioning of health care markets from an economic and a political science perspective, and ii) to understand the main tools to the design, implemention, and evaluation of public health policies. Students learn how health can be valued economically, why there is a demand and supply of health care, and how the characteristics of health as a market good influence the behavior of agents (patients, health care providers and insurers) in the health system. Students also develop the skills to understand the role of policy-makers in regulating health care markets and bringing change towards sustainable improvements in population health.

Lucerne Summer School in Health Econometrics

The Department of Health Sciences and Medicine and the Center for Health, Policy and Economics host the Lucerne Summer School in Health Econometrics. The summer school aims to bring together PhD students and senior lecturers in applied health economics and econometrics to discuss recent developments in the field and exchange ideas in an informal setting.

MLaw + Health Policy

The Faculty of Law offers a two-year Master of Law program with three semesters of master courses in law and one semester in an interdisciplinary field (Master Plus). The CHPE is active in designing and offering the additional modules in the "MLaw + Health Policy", which comprises courses in health sciences, health systems and policies, and quantitative methods.
